The Developers Guild

The one-day build challenge

Quoted weeks? We'll build it in a day.

Send us a real quote you got from a development firm. Each round we pick one project and build it start to finish in under a day. Free, and you keep it.

Round one is open. Entries close Friday, November 6 at 9 pm Central.

How it works

Three steps. One day of building.

  1. 1

    Send the quote

Upload the quote another firm gave you, or just type in the price and timeline they named. The firm's name stays out of anything we share.

  2. 2

    We pick one

Matt Summers, the Guild's founder, reads every entry himself. When the round closes he picks one project that fits the rules below and tells the owner right away.

  3. 3

    Built in a day

After a short call to agree on the scope, the picked project is built start to finish in under one working day. You test it. It's yours.

What qualifies

Real projects, sized for a day.

Good fits

  • A booking or scheduling system
  • A customer or client portal
  • A dashboard or report that builds itself
  • An internal tool your team uses every day
  • Connecting two systems that don't talk to each other
  • A web app with one clear job

Not for this challenge

  • Changes inside a large existing or legacy system
  • Whole platforms: marketplaces, social networks, a full ERP
  • Apps that must pass app store review (the review alone takes longer than a day)
  • Anything without a quote from another firm
  • Anything illegal, deceptive or built to harm someone

The deal

What you get, and what we ask.

Free if picked

The build costs you nothing, and you keep everything we make.

You put your name on it

In return we share the before and after under your name and your business: what you were quoted, and what we built in a day. You give us a short, honest testimonial of what was delivered against what you asked for. The other firm's name is always left out.

A fixed price if not picked

Every entry that fits gets a fixed price from us within two working days. Take it or leave it.

No obligation

You never have to work with us. This is a chance to see what's possible now.

Entries are taken in rounds. Matt picks one project per round and his choice is final. "A day" means one working day of build time once we agree on the scope in a short call. Hosting, domains and paid third-party services stay in your name and on your account. Your testimonial is your own honest account, good or bad, and we publish it as given, noting that the build was free as part of this challenge. If you don't name a required tech stack, we choose it.
